The Eagles hit the first bump in their 2026 schedule with a 27-7 loss to the Chicago Bears on Monday night, but the day wasn’t a total loss for Philly sports fans. It was also their first chance to see LeBron James in a Sixers uniform during the team’s media day. The Phillies also clinched a playoff berth a day earlier and traveled to Atlanta for a wild-card series against the Braves.
Each Friday, Inquirer photo editors pick the best sports images from the last seven days. Here’s this week’s Big Picture …

The Eagles won (again) in Week 1 as the NFL season kicked off. They haven’t lost an opener since 2020, the year before Nick Sirianni and Jalen Hurts took over. While the Birds weren’t the only game in town this week, they were the biggest sports story — and a pair of players even made some headlines off the field. Each Friday, Inquirer photo editors picked the best sports images from the last seven days. Here’s this week’s Big Picture …

As we head into Labor Day Weekend, we say goodbye to one of the busiest sports summers in Philadelphia history, one that included a World Cup, an MLB All-Star Game, and much, much more. One of the summer’s final events was the return of the Philly Cycling Classic, but there was also a one-of-a-kind event on the Delaware River and a Sixers rookie locked in a glass gaming truck in South Philly.
As they do each Friday, Inquirer photo editors picked the best sports images from the last seven days. Even with the Phillies on the West Coast, there was plenty to choose from for this week’s Big Picture …

The Summer of Philly Sports is finally nearing its conclusion … but it’s not over yet. This week saw the city host its first professional women’s tennis tournament in two decades, and on Sunday, the Philadelphia Cycling Classic returns after a 10-year absence. But before those riders — from all over the globe and, yes, from Philly — attempt to summit the Manayunk Wall, let’s take a look back at a busy week that also included the Eagles’ only open practice of the summer and the Phillies’ first walk-off home run in three years.
As they do each Friday, Inquirer photo editors picked the best sports images from the last seven days to help give you the Big Picture …

Normally, this time of the summer is a slow period for sports, but you wouldn’t know that if you’ve been spending time around Philly. Not only are the Eagles in camp and the Phillies and Union about to hit their seasons’ stretch runs, but there’s also the U.S. Amateur at Merion Golf Club, Tyrese Maxey and his friends showing out for charity, the Rumph Classic, and much more to come.
But before we look toward events still ahead — like UFC 330, the Philly Cycling Classic, and the Ennoble Care Philly Open — let’s take a look back. Each Friday, Inquirer photo editors pick the best sports images from the last seven days. Here’s what we saw this week …

In all of that, Inquirer photographers were there to capture it, compile it, and deliver this weekly curated wrap-up of the best in Philly sports images. Enjoy.

Each Friday, Inquirer photo editors pick the best sports images from the last seven days. And this week, the Philly sports landscape began its return to normal, after the World Cup and MLB All-Star Game swept through town earlier this month. That means the Phillies and Union returned to action — the latter after six weeks off — and both did so in home matchups against teams from New York, with much different results.
The Phillies’ post-All-Star break struggles continued as they followed their series loss to the Mets by dropping two of three to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Meanwhile, the last-place Union won for the first time since April 11, beating Red Bull New York in Chester on Wednesday. Here’s a look back:
